CWA-Represented Apple Retail Workers in Oklahoma City Become Second U.S. Store to Secure Tentative Agreement with Tech Giant
(Oklahoma City, Okla.)—Today, Apple retail workers at the Penn Square Mall Apple Store in Oklahoma City, represented by the Communications Workers of America (CWA), secured a tentative labor agreement with Apple. This makes their store the second in the U.S. to reach an agreement with the global tech giant. Workers will vote to ratify the tentative agreement on September 22.
Highlights of the three-year agreement include:
- Wage increases of up to 11.5% over the next three years.
- Worker involvement in scheduling and guaranteed paid time off to vote.
- A safer and more democratic workplace with a grievance and arbitration process and the establishment of joint Safety and Health and Working Relations committees.
- Job protection in the event of a store closure or relocation and severance pay.
- Guaranteed paid time off, health, and other benefits
“Today, my 80 coworkers and I have just secured a tentative agreement with the world’s most profitable corporation. For more than a year, we stood strong at the bargaining table because we knew that by standing together we could secure the pay raises, protections, and benefits we deserve. It’s thanks to our work that Apple retail stores are the most profitable retail stores per square foot across any industry—and we finally have an agreement that will ensure we earn our fair share for our work,” said Kirsten Matson, member of the Apple Retail Union-CWA.
Workers voted to form a union with CWA in October 2022 after an extensive anti-union campaign by Apple. Despite delays at the bargaining table, workers persisted and unanimously passed a strike authorization vote in August 2024. Earlier this week, workers held an informational picket in front of the store ahead of bargaining sessions on September 4.
“Today is a historic day for our members who have now secured a contract at the world’s most profitable company. We know that it is thanks to these Apple retail workers that Apple is such a successful tech and retail giant. But for too long, workers were denied a real voice at the table—and discouraged from exercising their right to organize. This tentative agreement makes clear that when workers stand together, they win,” said Derrick Osobase, CWA District 6 Vice President.
