The GOP Health Care Repeal Bill Will Cost 1 Million Jobs

The Republicans health care repeal bill currently being considered in the Senate will take coverage away from 23 million people by 2026. A new analysis finds that it will also cost nearly 1 million American jobs.

Most job losses (725,000) will come from the health care industry - nurses, doctors, and hospital staff. Uninsured people are less likely to get care when they’re sick and are less likely to be able to pay for the care they receive. This will mean cutbacks in care, layoffs and closures for many health care providers.

Industries such as construction and retail will also see job losses. Hospitals are anchor institutions for many communities which means that layoffs and closures will have effects throughout the local economy.

The GOP health care repeal includes over $800 billion in cuts to state health care programs. This will result in major cutbacks and layoffs for state and local workers. States will need to increase their spending on health care programs by 37% to maintain current coverage levels. This would require big tax increases or major cuts to other state programs.

This bill is currently being considered in the US Senate. Click here or dial 1-855-980-2231 and tell your Senator to oppose the health care repeal bill.
