Support for Bernie Sanders Continues to Build New Political Movement
Communications Workers of America (CWA) President Chris Shelton issued this statement on the results of the Nevada caucuses:
“The outcome of the Nevada caucuses shows the broad support for Senator Bernie Sanders, especially among young and Latino voters and independents. Sanders and supporters are building a new political movement, one that is resonating with voters nationwide.
CWA activists are a big part of this grassroots revolution. Sanders was the overwhelming choice of members who voted in our online poll to endorse a primary candidate. Since pledging our support, thousands of active and retired CWA members across the country have been organizing worksite actions, staffing phone banks, and signing up new contributors to CWA's political program ahead of the general election.
Our union has more than 300,000 active and retired members in the states holding caucuses and primaries between now and April 1. In California, Texas, New York, New Jersey, and Ohio -- where CWA has its largest numbers of members -- activists are already mobilizing support for the Sanders campaign.”
