Still Time to Make Plans for Workers' Memorial Day April 28

Workers' Memorial Day is a week away, April 28, but there's still time to plan or get involved in events in your community.

CWA locals around the country are hosting events or participating in activities with their Central Labor Councils and other allies. Memorials to honor workers and stress the ongoing battle for safe workplaces are planned from Buffalo to Tacoma.

In Dayton, Ohio, for instance, employers are joining with IUE-CWA for a memorial. In South Bend, Ind., families of workers killed on the job will join CWA and other unions for a remembrance and day of activities.

The 2011 Workers' Memorial Day theme is "Safe Jobs Save Lives: Our Work's Not Done." Flyers and materials to help you plan events are available online from the AFL-CIO. Click here or go to www.aflcio.org.

CWA Health and Safety Director Dave LeGrande asks locals to let CWA know what they're planning by filling out a form, available here (PDF). Email the form, and any questions, to legrande@cwa-union.org.
