Saving Social Security

With a sign proclaiming “Social Security Works,” CWA Legislative Representative Rosie Torres joins fellow CWA and other union members at a rally July 24 to oppose President Bush’s plan to privatize Social Security. About 300 union members marched in front of the Capitol Hilton in Washington D.C., with chants and signs telling Bush and Wall Street to keep their hands off Social Security funds. Inside, the Social Security commission appointed by Bush issued its first report, overwhelmingly favoring privatization. A Washington Post editorial called the report “combative and somewhat skewed.”
