Salute to Fallen Co-Worker

More than 500 traffic enforcement agents, police and New York City Mayor Rudolph Guiliani turned out for the funeral of CWA Local 1182’s Larry Siegelbaum, affectionately know to many as “Ziggy.” Siegelbaum was killed on the job Oct. 19, when a taxi collided with his police scooter. Guiliani vowed at the funeral to pressure the Taxi and Limousine Commission to make it easier to suspend the licenses of drivers who violate traffic laws. The driver who killed Ziggy had nine past convictions. Local 1182 President Robert Cassar, who attended the funeral, noted that daily, agents put up with harassment and, in some cases, assaults by angry motorists. “Mr. Sieglebaum was a very pleasant person,” Cassar noted. “He was a guy who came and checked in and did his job everday. He will be missed.”
