Retiree Healthcare Labor Notice

To:  AT&T Local Presidents

Greetings:

This morning the C&T office received the attached Labor Notice from AT&T.  Aetna made a processing error that is already corrected in AT&T's system and will be corrected in Aetna's system by April 7, 2008.  When a Retiree who is not eligible for Medicare has a Medicare-eligible dependent(s), Aetna was putting both participants in the Point of Service Plan.  While that is the correct process for the non-Medicare-eligible Retiree, those dependents who are Medicare-eligible should be placed in the Traditional Indemnity Plan.

Once Aetna's system is corrected, they will be reprocessing claims under the Indemnity Plan.  Effective April 1, 2008, Aetna is pending claims to ensure that all future claims are processed correctly.

The non-Medicare Retirees will be receiving a new POS ID card removing their Medicare dependents and their Medicare dependents will be receiving a new Traditional Indemnity ID card.  Cover letters that explain why new cards are being issue will be included.  That mailing is scheduled for April 11, 2008.  If a Retiree or dependent needs medical treatment or has a question about a claim in the interim, he/she should contact Aetna at the number listed on their current medical ID card.  The call centers at Aetna and the AT&T Benefits Center have been updated so they can appropriately handle calls from these retirees.

In Unity,

Martha Flagge
CWA Representative
