"No Contract, No Peace!"

CWA District 6 Update

About 175 people held a vigil at Verizon's offices in Irving, Texas, last Saturday while time for negotiating a new contract ran out. In lieu of candles, the members and their families held glow sticks and chanted, “Shame on them! No contract, no peace!”

Members in the Southwest are keeping a close eye on the situation in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. “We support our brothers and sisters 110%,” says Karen Rodriquez, Local 6171 mobilization coordinator and a Verizon call center worker.

When the clock struck midnight Saturday, Verizon had refused to back off the concessionary and regressive proposals on the table. With no agreement on the horizon, union representatives and the company agreed to a two-week extension to August 25.
