New Pact at Cincinnati Bell

CWA reached a new tentative agreement with Cincinnati Bell, gaining significant improvements in health care coverage over an earlier proposed settlement and averting a July 9 strike deadline. The earlier agreement was rejected by a membership vote.

CWA Vice President Jeff Rechenbach said the agreement addresses members’ concerns about health care coverage, one of the most critical issues in the negotiations.

The new agreement provides two health care options for workers, with the in-network plan requiring no employee contributions for individual or family coverage and no deductible. An HMO option with no deductible also was negotiated.

Other gains negotiated in the second round of bargaining include a $500 ratification bonus; a $200 retention bonus for most employees after one year of service; an additional lump sum increase for employees in the S11 and S51 wage schedules; and the establishment of a joint committee to address job stress, retention, productivity and other issues.

The agreement also calls for a 12.6 percent wage increase over the contract term, increases pension credits by 10 percent and addresses job security and subcontracting issues, among other gains.

Presidents Tim Donoghue, CWA Local 4400, and Edwina Davis, Local 4401, said the agreement was a significant improvement over the earlier proposed contract and support its ratification. Some 2,000 Cincinnati Bell members will vote on the proposed agreement with the mail ratification vote to be counted July 25.
