Mobilization Report

Locals nationwide continue to focus on Quality, Safety on the job, and mobilize for a fair contract including healthcare for both active and retired workers.

2252 members are still clicking every 1/2 hour.  They had a rally/cookout at Oakton, VA on 5/5.  On 5/7 they had a rally/cookout in Waldorf, MD.  Saturday 5/9 they distributed over 1000 flyers at the Ovarian Cancer 5k Run in Reston, VA; and Sunday 5/10 they informed thousands of people at the AT&T-sponsored Baltimore Orioles baseball game about AT&T's sick plans to cut healthcare.

6450 members remain solid in mobilization with actions including stand ups with clapping and clicking every single day since the contract expired.  Wednesday they handbilled using the "Swine Flu" handbill.  "What were you thinking?" flyers were distributed in all locations.  Members began writing personal letters and sending them to Randall Stephenson at home.

7250 visited all four Apple stores in Minnesota, and distributed thousands of flyers telling participants at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure that AT&T is planning to cut retiree healthcare at a time in their lives when they need it the most.  Members remain mobilized on the job and continue to focus on healthcare during actions.  Standing hourly continues.

7750 continues info pickets and rallies with active and retired workers. Management sent out a letter threatening discipline against workers for participating in Union actions.  CWA members will not be stopped by illegal intimidation.  The Cinco de Mayo Donut Walk brought chants of "WE'RE NOT…AUTO WORKERS" "WE ARE…THE NETWORK", which really stirred things up.

9415 has not stopped mobilizing; inside work actions continue.  A rally was held in Pleasanton on May 6.  During the demonstration, members held up letters that spelled out their chants, "We are not the problem; we are the solution" and "CWA".

13500 is continuing to make noise hourly every day.  "Thursday – wear RED" participation rate is approx. 95-97%.

13550 members continue to mobilize even though management has attempted to interfere in their right to concerted action.  Members proudly continue to stand and make noise.  Clickers are almost worn out from so much use!

Remember, CWA prides itself on performing Quality work Safely.  If you are experiencing unsafe working conditions for your members, please report all violations to OSHA.

The Apple stores organizing campaign has been going well.  Apple has 210 retail locations in the United States, and the workers in over 75% of them have been approached to become part of CWA.

AT&T Authorized Agents/Reseller locations are extremely interested in organizing with CWA.  Locals continue to visit those locations frequently.

We would like to make sure that workers at Radio Shack, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, AT&T Authorized agents, and now Apple have the same information on how to form a Union where they work.  A new flyer was created for use in the Apple stores; C&T Local Presidents should have received it.  Contact cwainfo@gmail.com if you need a copy.

If you experience changes in working conditions (i.e. change in office policies; Company refusing to pay for sick time per the contract) or any other Unfair Labor Practice, make sure to get specifics to bbates@cwa-union.org.  He is working with CWA Legal to keep track of the ULPs committed during bargaining.

Remember to have people sign the e-petition to AT&T by accessing www.standupforworkers.com so we can send a strong message to AT&T that corporate greed is not tolerated in the United States.  We have over 80,000 signatures so far; our goal is to reach 100,000.

If you would like your actions to be included in the next report, or if you were accidentally omitted, please submit your report to cwainfo@gmail.com.
