Mobilization Report
It's time to turn up the heat.
The C&T Locals around the country entered Mobilization Phase 2. Due to its sensitive nature, we may not be able to report on all the details of each activity.
It's our fate and our family's futures that AT&T is trying to diminish. The retrogressions that the corporation is proposing would have a devastating impact on many CWA active members and the retirees that fought for what the Company is trying to take away.
2252 is still standing hourly and clicking for a fair contract, healthcare for active and retired members, and for the return of President Sean Linehan from suspension.
6350 members are still engaged in the "Click or Picket" campaign at 10am, 2pm, 4pm, 6pm, 10pm, 2am, and 6am. They are starting to wear their clickers out and will have to get some more to hand out if we do not get a contract soon. Two of their members make the post-web-cast shout out. Friday April 24th, 2009 was an informational meet and greet, where hot dogs were served and mobilization actions discussed, and 6350 Community Service Committee held a 50/50 raffle for a janitor who was forced to retire due to illness after 25 years of service. A generous donation was made, and the member was overwhelmed by the response. Their members are kept up to date with information and wear Red on Thursdays and Black on Fridays. Bandages are worn by the members to remind local management that "health care" is something we will strike over.
6450 reports that on Thursday they continued to stand 5 minutes every hour, clapping and clicking, and letters were sent to the Company to let them know we will not tolerate fear and intimidation of members for concerted activities. On Friday members wore black and stood every 30 minutes, clapping and clicking. Hourly stand-ups continued Monday. Over 1000 fans were handbilled at the Kansas City Royals game with help from 6360. They continue to utilize the website and e-mail tree and keep in contact with local media with weekly updates. They have had 10,611 views on their youtube video so far.
7250 is still clicking on the even hours, standing hourly in the call centers, and wearing red Monday-Thursday & black on Fridays. Mobilizers have continued organizing drives at the AT&T Authorized Retail locations, and have started contacting employees in the Apple stores to join CWA as well. Friday was "fake sick, going to the beach day" where members dressed in shorts and sandals, and received red leis to complete their beach attire! NLRB charges were filed against GNFO (Article 43 techs) for refusing to pay sick pay (of any length) without a doctor's note; Article 20 grievances to follow. The 7250 Drastic Action Team continues its covert operations on orange alert.
7750 continues to wear red and/or union, and black on Fridays. The Solidarity walks will continue daily with chants. Health care is the focus this week. They stand and shake pill bottles at 10am, Noon and 6pm daily. We'll join the retirees, AFL-CIO, District 7, Jobs with Justice and other Locals for an informational picket on Wednesday the 29th, Noon to 1pm (pictures to follow). The Mobilization Committee is running a contest to get new ideas from the members for mobilization activities. They installed a count up on their website tracking the days, hours, minutes and seconds we have been working without a contract, and are having a contest for best mobilization ideas!
13550 distributed the "We are the Network" flyer; they continue to stand, click and tap daily. Tuesday they distributed information on the Shareholders Meeting. Today is health care day. Their members are continuing to decorate their PODS with Union information; judging will be held on Friday to determine a winner!
A reminder that we have added Apple stores to our list of organizing campaigns, as AT&T is the exclusive service provider for the Apple iphone. We would like to make sure that workers at Radio Shack, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, AT&T Authorized agents, and now Apple have the same information on how to form a Union where they work. A new flyer was created for use in the Apple stores; C&T Local Presidents should have received it. Contact cwainfo@gmail.com if you need a copy.
If you experience changes in working conditions (i.e. change in office policies; Company refusing to pay for sick time per the contract) or any other Unfair Labor Practice, make sure to get specifics to bbates@cwa-union.org. He is working with CWA Legal to keep track of the ULPs committed during bargaining.
Remember to have people sign the e-petition to AT&T by accessing www.standupforworkers.com so we can send a strong message to AT&T that corporate greed is not tolerated in the United States. We have over 80,000 signatures so far; we would like to have over 100,000.
If you would like your actions to be included in the next report, or if you were accidentally omitted, please submit your report to cwainfo@gmail.com.
Mobilization Phase 2: We have stepped up our actions and engaged all Locals. This is not "Business As Usual", as stated in Bargaining Report #31. "It is clear that this is very different from any bargaining this unit has been involved with in the past, and we need to increase pressure and find more ways to push the Company to be more responsive at the bargaining table."
