Mobilization Report
June 13 marks ten weeks since our contract expired. The Company continues to attack our families and our livelihoods with their retrogressions. The last few weeks have been a call for EVERY member to get involved.
Our collective action inside and outside the company is the only way to maintain affordable healthcare and get the fair and equitable contract we all need and deserve.
The iPhone 3G S will be rolled out June 19; don't miss this great opportunity to take action against AT&T.
Our organizing drives at Apple, AT&T Authorized Agents, Best Buy, Radio Shack, and Wal-Mart continue. We want ALL of the workers who sell our products and services to have the same rights and working conditions that CWA negotiates for us on the job.
CWA members pride themselves on performing quality work safely. If you experience unsafe working conditions, please be sure to report them to your Local Steward or Officer. You can also contact OSHA directly, then notify your Local Union. Make sure your safety and protective gear is functioning properly.
If you experience changes in working conditions (i.e. change in office policies; instituting new rules or guidelines) or any other Unfair Labor Practice, make sure to get specifics to bbates@cwa-union.org. He is working with CWA Legal to keep track of the ULPs committed during bargaining. Locals should be filing charges with the National Labor Relations Board.
Following Disruption Day June 6, Locals make plans to continue external actions. Check with your Local Officers or Stewards for information on activities in your area.
The following reportable actions have happened in the past week:
1150 participated in the National Disruption Day on Saturday, June 6th. They visited the Apple Store on Prince Street in NYC. After tying up the employees for nearly an hour, they handed out a union organizing letter. They are planning additional actions.
3250 visited two locations. At the Apple Store, CWA members used all the display phones and typed in the notes on JUNE 6 that "CWA was here. Tell att CEO Randal Stephenson, we want a contract." More actions are planned. This is in addition to the hourly clicking and the parades in the buildings.
3902 & 3950 mailed letters to President Obama on Thursday June 4th mourning working without a contract for two months. On Saturday Locals 3902 & 3950 visited Best Buy & The Apple Stores.
4040 has collected several letters from legislators encouraging a contract at AT&T, including one from Congressman Mike Rogers. They are in the process of a mass mailing to all Local, State and Federal Government Officials. They hold informational pickets every RED THURSDAY starting at 6:30 a.m. with Prem Techs and CSS in Air Pressure 'til 8:30 a.m. with CSS and CSTs in I&M. Yard signs were made and posted in several members' yards saying, "AT&T's $12.9 billion profit – leave our healthcare alone." They have had two informational cookouts at the hall the last two Wednesdays. Getting kicked out of Best Buy a few times has been a favorite.
4320 made billboards and drove them around the city in the back of pickup trucks. They were all around Dublin, Ohio this past Thursday and Friday plus the weekend, where the Muirfield Memorial Golf Tournament was going on, and AT&T sponsored Tiger Woods in this golf tournament. At one point a truck broke down, so they had to sit there in front of the Muirfield Golf Course sign while they tried to figure out what was wrong with the truck, which took some time. Retirees, active members, and members of CWA 4310 visited the Apple Store in Columbus. They continue with their informational picketing everyday.
6350 has continued with our clickers so much that the clickers are wearing out! They wear red on Thursday and black on Friday. On Saturday, they went to the AT&T agent store in St. Louis, MO, and tied up every employee for over an hour. They continue to work to the rule & boycott overtime. They continue wearing red & black. June 10 was bread and water day, where bottles of water and bread were distributed. Plastic bottles are very noisy when you crunch them! June 11 they walked into work together, utilizing the clickers, letting management know they want a contract.
6377 members gathered at the AT&T Reseller store. They all asked questions about their accounts, occupying two Sales Associates for over an hour. They left with a promise to return after they made decisions about the particular services they were interested in. They received a commitment from Congressman Todd Akins to send a letter supporting CWA to AT&T's Stephenson.
6450 & 6360 participated in Disruption Day with actions at Best Buy. The store was extremely busy due to Sprint's new phone which came out that day. Then security came out to help too! She asked if they were at a Convention in town because there were so many of them. 6450's inside actions also continue.
7250 continues inside actions. An AT&T authorized dealer was visited on Disruption Day. Mobilizers met to brainstorm for more mobilization ideas. Thursday's info picket was joined by the Labor Federation & HERE who marched in front of AT&T along with members and officers of 7200 and 7250. Members took our message through the crowded streets where hundreds of people enjoyed outdoor dining, the farmers market, and the rib-fest in the plaza. Over 400 flyers were distributed to the public.
7750 went to the Apple stores in the Denver metro area on Saturday, June 6th. They will continue actions in other locations. Over 400 flyers were distributed at the People's Fair in downtown Denver. Last Thursday they had a rally to cover the members on what VP Maly said on the call Wednesday night. Their daily solidarity walk participation doubled on Friday; more people join every day. The informational pickets are well attended by both active employees and retirees. Wednesday's picket was also attended by other Locals in Denver.
9415 members marched around the courtyard at AT&T holding placards up last Thursday, and they leafleted the people from the other companies who were on their lunch in the cafeteria and outside.
13500 & 13550 and staff lobbied for more support from legislators for AT&T bargaining, and received commitments from four additional Democrats for a letter to Randall Stephenson. Members attended an Employee Free Choice Act rally in Pittsburgh, then went to the Apple Store. A number of members in red shirts went into the store, asked questions, and left the "Regret" flyer. They also discussed with the sales people the need to resolve Bargaining before any of their members will purchase Apple products. They held a Healthcare day where aspirins and band-aids were distributed, and focused on off-shoring of work.
Stay Strong; Stay Mobilized.
