Mobilization Report
While phase 2 of mobilization kicks into high gear, we are not able to report on all of the actions happening across the country. There are activities planned in every work site and/or every community. If you would like to participate, contact your Local Union office.
Here are the actions we are able to report on this week:
1150 members in the office setting are continuing their clicking and standing. Their techs on the outside are practicing their highest safety and quality standards. We are working on many upcoming actions
2252 held rallies/informational pickets in MD and VA last week. Their members remain mobilized and are standing & clicking every half hour. The letter writing campaign to President Obama continues.
6377 mobilizers distributed the Swine Flu leaflet along with individual bottles of Hand Sanitizer. Each bottle carried the inscription, "Swine Flu/AT$T Healthcare Proposals – Both are enough to make you Sick!!! Directions: Sanitize and Mobilize to prevent the spread of Pandemic Corporate Greed!!!" The members put both in a prominent place on their desks. They began their Congressional letter writing & phone campaign. "We are the Network" flyers to all members.
6450 continues to stand every day at 10:00 & 2:00 and shake pill bottles. They wear red on Thursdays and black on Fridays. Everyone's desks are decorated with signs supporting the Union. Members started a writing campaign to send letters to Stephenson's home on why they need their healthcare. Everyone is wearing the CWA pins.
7250 distributed Ratty Randy fliers. The call centers stand hourly for a fair contract and healthcare, while on-site and outside plant workers remain focused on safety and quality. Members held a rally and informational picket Thursday with much support from the Labor community. Despite being in a heated battle for a contract, members continue to volunteer in their communities through the Postal Workers food drive last week & helping seniors with yard clean up. They continued their attempt to organize Apple, Best Buy, Radio Shack & AT&T authorized agents.
7750 filed NLRB charges against AT&T for their interference in CWA's right to concerted actions.
13500 continues to make noise hourly EVERY day. Members participated in Health Care Daze mobilization where folks dressed in scrubs, had band aids, bandages, and some had crutches. They also distributed a Prescription for Health Care, as offered by AT&T.
13550 distributed over 350 flyers to the public Sunday at the Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure Walk; they passed out Randy the Rat Fact Sheets & pictures. President Mary Lou Schaffer participated twice on The Union Edge Talk Show radio show to get our healthcare and bargaining message out to the public, and promoted the rally held on Friday at Grant Street where they received public and Labor support including: JWJ, Allegheny County Labor Council President and Council, Mayor of City, Steelworkers and various unions.
Instances of interference in concerted actions by AT&T continue to be reported, and charges filed at the NLRB.
If you experience changes in working conditions (i.e. change in office policies; Company refusing to pay for sick time per the contract) or any other Unfair Labor Practice, make sure to get specifics to bbates@cwa-union.org. He is working with CWA Legal to keep track of the ULPs committed during bargaining.
Remember to have people sign the e-petition to AT&T by accessing www.standupforworkers.com so we can send a strong message to AT&T that corporate greed is not tolerated in the United States. We have over 80,000 signatures so far; our goal is to reach 100,000.
Remember, CWA prides itself on performing Quality work Safely. If you are experiencing unsafe working conditions for your members, please report all violations to OSHA.
We are continuing our organizing campaigns at Apple, AT&T authorized agents, Best Buy, Radio Shack, Wal-Mart & any other locations that sell AT&T products and services.
If you would like your actions to be included in the next report, or if you were accidentally omitted, please submit your report to cwainfo@gmail.com.
