Members Approve Verizon Northwest Pact
Members of CWA Local 7670 at Verizon Northwest, formerly GTE Northwest, have ratified a three-year agreement that provides improvements in wages and benefits for about 700 workers in Idaho and eastern Washington.
The settlement includes a general wage increase of 12 percent over the contract term with workers in a newly combined group — national markets center representatives and access order representatives — to receive an additional wage adjustment.
The contract also improves health, dental and vision care, increases the minimum pension benefit, provides up to $10,000 toward adoptions, improves education, training and other assistance in the event of layoffs, and adds a payroll deduction option for CWA-COPE.
CWA District 7 Vice President John Thompson credited the long hours and hard work of the bargaining committee, chaired by CWA Representative Reed Roberts, with winning a quality contract for CWA members.
Bargaining began Oct. 29 for a new contract covering about 9,000 workers at Verizon’s California (formerly GTE) operations.
