Integrity

To:  All Avaya Locals

Recently at the C&T Conference in the Avaya Bargaining Unit meeting it was brought to CWA’s attention that employees are being instructed to falsify Company records.  As an example if a technician has not been dispatched within the appropriate window employees are told to recode the ticket.  Great concern was expressed by all over this issue.

In the January 22, 2007 issue of Avaya FYI the article “Sign as Appropriate or Don’t Sign at All” appeared.  That article follows in its entirety.

“The latest issue of Real Cases, Real Consequences, the ethics and compliance newsletter, is now available on the Enterprise Portal.  This edition describes a case where an Avaya employee forged signatures in order to expedite closure of customer projects – a serious violation of the Avaya Code of Conduct.

Like all cases we cover in the newsletter, this is a real life example of how an employee faced an ethical issue.  As President and Chief Executive Officer Lou D’Ambrosio says, ‘integrity is our company’s number one guiding principle.’  When our behavior does not meet that standard, there are serious consequences, says Don Brown, director, Avaya Corporate Security.

Operating with Integrity, Avaya’s worldwide Code of Conduct, contains guidance on many issues and reflects the company’s commitment to the highest standards of integrity.  Read the latest issue of Real Cases, Real Consequences.”

Apparently Mr. D’Ambrosio doesn’t understand the ethical dilemma and pressure workers face on a daily basis when told by managers to falsify records.  If you come under such a circumstance where you are told to falsify a record, you should email Mr. D’Ambrosio with the ethical issue and ask what he believes you should do as a worker for Avaya.  CWA believes our members should never be put in a position of having to falsify records and we know that if it ever came down to discipline our members would pay the price and management would have short term memory loss in having directed them to take such action.  If you are in doubt, raise the issue before you act.
