Death of Former CWA Local 13000 Member

On May 22, 2008, Thomas Hetrick, a former member of CWA Local 13000, a Verizon cable splicer, and supervisor, was killed while performing his job in Chester County, Pennsylvania. Although the work area was fitted with barriers to prevent entry, a truck crashed into the work area and caught/snagged a telecommunications cable. In turn, Mr. Hetrick was struck by the cable and suffered fatal injuries. At present, Verizon is conducting a fatality investigation. Upon completion, the Company will prepare a report and issue a Safety Bulletin.

Thomas Hetrick was employed by Verizon for some 25 years; for ten of these years, he was a member of Local 13000.
