CWA Files Charges Against US WEST
(DENVER) -- In a formal complaint to the National Labor Relations Board, the Communications Workers of America charged that U S WEST has failed to provide information requested by CWA regarding key issues in the current labor negotiations.
CWA members struck the company on August 16. The first negotiations since the walkout are set to take place tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. under the auspices of a federal mediator.
The union's unfair labor practice complaint charges that U S WEST failed to bargain in good faith for failing to provide requested information on overtime hours, subcontracting of work, time off, the pension plan, and the company's proposed "earnings opportunity plan."
Regarding the earnings plan -- a proposal to tie the pay of outside technicians to job completion standards set by the company -- CWA said the U S WEST provided partial information, but that some 200 questions submitted from the field techs themselves are still unanswered.
"Failure to give us information on major issues such as these is one reason we were miles apart when the contract expired, and why we are on strike today," said CWA District 7 Vice President Sue Pisha.
