Court's Decision Doesn't Alter the Right of American Airlines Agents to a Fair and Timely Election

NMB Should Proceed with Union Representation Election for American Airlines Agents

Statement by the Communications Workers of America on today’s ruling by Bankruptcy Judge Sean Lane. Passenger service agents were seeking a temporary injunction to block American Airlines from implementing drastic wage, benefit and job cuts while agents are waiting for their election:

Washington, D.C. -- Judge Lane's ruling on American Airlines passenger service agents’  request for a temporary injunction doesn't take away from the big issue raised by agents: that American Airlines should not be able to make the kind of drastic cuts it's proposing while agents' election process is underway.

American Airlines has been doing everything it can think of, both legal and not, to block agents from voting on union representation.

Yesterday, agents delivered name and address labels to the NMB so that the election can go forward, despite American Airlines' refusal to comply with the NMB's directive to supply the mailing list. American Airlines shouldn't be allowed to violate the law.

Agents are continuing to mobilize for a timely and fair election, sending petitions to the American Airlines CEO and to the NMB calling for a fair election now.

CWA and the passenger service group also are intervening in the lawsuit that American Airlines has filed against the NMB, supporting the NMB's position that the election should go forward.
