Cingular's 99 "Blue" Retail Employees in Missouri Go CWA
Cingular's former AT&T Wireless retail employees in Missouri are now CWA after 78 percent of the 99 Cingular retail store workers in the state supported CWA representation in a card check. The sales associates' statewide unit, composed of 21 stores in six cities, was certified August 19 by the American Arbitration Association
The workers were supported by six CWA locals and organizers whose cooperation and coordination overcame the geographical difficulties posed by organizing a single, statewide group of workers. "The locals' support for the workers was tremendous," said District 6 Organizing Coordinator Tom Newport.
Help for the workers in Kansas City came from Local 6327's Anetra Session, Jaunita Lizotte, Lisa Millican and Cynthia Marshal. Assistance in St. Louis came from Local 6320's Kevin Kujawa, Sonja Gholsten-Byrd, Tia Bowling, Dave Hoyt, Tony Franks, Deon Grooters and Jim Henderson. Sales associates in Cape Girardeau were supported by Local 6316 organizers Kara Hutchason and Meredith Elfrink.
Retail store workers in Columbia were aided by Bryant Liddle, president of Local 6314. In Joplin, the workers received assistance from Steve Wood of Local 6313. Local 6312 President Jim Billedo and Carl Carter assisted the two dozen associates from four retail locations in Springfield.
