AT&T LEGACY T RETIREES SENT TERMINATION NOTICE FROM AETNA

We received the following Labor Notice from AT&T earlier today.  Apparently, Hewitt, AT&T’s Plan Administrator sent termination of coverage notices to Aetna for 1,400 Legacy T Retirees in error.  At this time, the Company has not determined how many of the 1,400 Retirees are represented Retirees vs. non-represented Retirees.  Hewitt systems have been corrected and the systems will be updated by today, January 31st.  As new Aetna ID cards have already been received, no new cards should be necessary.   Earlier this month, confusion was generated with Retirees received similar notices from United Healthcare (UHC).  In that case, the letters were sent because the Company changed the Traditional Indemnity Provider from UHC to Aetna.  So, while UHC coverage was indeed terminated, no represented Retiree was without healthcare coverage because Aetna took over for UHC.

Should you have any questions in regard to this issue, please feel free to contact me on my cell phone (301) 467-3827 or via e-mail at mflagge@cwa-union.org.

Aetna Traditional Indemnity Option – Legacy AT&T (T) Retirees

Date: 1/29/08

Issue

The T Retirees in the Traditional Indemnity option had coverage with United Healthcare in 2007 but effective January 1, 2008; Aetna became their retiree medical plan administrator.   Hewitt sent these retirees to Aetna on the Annual Enrollment file; however, in mid January due to a data error, Hewitt sent Aetna terminations of coverage for these retirees.

Letter

To be provided later.

Additional Information

Hewitt systems were corrected and an update will be issued to Aetna on January 30th.  Aetna will update their systems by January 31st.

The retirees received new Aetna ID cards before January 1, 2008, so in most cases, there shouldn’t be a need to reissue cards.  Aetna is researching further and we will provide an update.  If a retiree needs medical treatment or has a question about a claim in the interim, he/she should contact Aetna at the number listed on their medical ID card.

Aetna will be reprocessing claims which were denied due to this issue.

The call centers at Aetna and the AT&T Benefits Center have been updated so they can appropriately handle calls from these retirees.

Affected Group(s)

T Retirees:     1,400 Impacted

(At this time we have not determined what portion of the 1,400 impacted is bargained compared to management retirees.  Once that information is available an update will be provided.)
