Alcatel-Lucent 2014 Bargaining Report #17
Bargaining Report #17
Alcatel-Lucent Installation
A member of the Union Team and one from the Company side were away from the table dealing with JHCC (Joint Health Care Committee) issues that need to be resolved this month. The remainder of the teams met and continued working through issues at the table. The main discussion was around a company demand to change the Mode of Operations Agreement, which defines which Installers may be assigned to 7-day coverage. It currently severely limits it and currently the only group on a 7-day schedule is the RITC, since it is an “Installation Test Center”, which is covered under the agreement. The Company attempted to assign 7-day coverage schedules to some Installers working on the Sprint Project last year. The Union insisted at that time that the language was not meant for regular installation work and the company backed down. Now they are trying to change the Contract so they can expand it to other work. The Union team has rejected the demand insisting that weekend work can be covered by overtime, as it always has been, and when there have been problems getting volunteers to do the work, we have always been able to figure out how to get it done.
We will continue bargaining on Friday and through the weekend.
