Just in time for summer's heat and humidity, CWA's Occupational Safety and Health Department has issued a vital report examining how heat stress endangers members in the telecom industry.

"A Burning Issue," available here (PDF), documents the scope of the problem, what employers need to do to protect workers from heat stress, and what members need to know to protect themselves.

Findings of the report are based on an extensive 2010 survey CWA conducted of nearly 1,000 members at AT&T, Verizon and Qwest/Century Link.

In related action, the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration this week launched a national outreach campaign aimed at protecting workers from heat-related illnesses. Click here to visit OSHA's heat stress website.
