Angela Thompson Appointed CWA General Counsel

I’m pleased to let you know that I have appointed Angela Thompson as CWA’s General Counsel. Angela succeeds Pat Shea, who has retired after 41 years at CWA.

Pat joined CWA as a law clerk in 1981, before she was even out of law school. She has spent her entire career serving our members, and became General Counsel in 2018. I know that many of you have worked with Pat over the years and have relied on her encyclopedic knowledge of our union and impeccable legal judgment. Please join me in wishing her a happy and well earned retirement.

Pat is almost irreplaceable, but we are fortunate that Angela Thompson, who has been our Special Counsel for Strategic Initiatives, will be our new General Counsel.

Angela became part of our CWA family when she began working as a customer sales and service representative for Bell Atlantic, which became Verizon during her 7 ½ years there. She served as a steward and a picket line captain. While working at Verizon, she used the educational benefits under her CWA contract to attend Rutgers University, graduating with a masters in labor and employment relations. She went on to earn her law degree from Yale, and has spent her legal career in labor, including 7 years at the National Labor Relations Board, where she held several leadership positions in the NLRB staff union.
