The Foundation was lucky to welcome back one of our Foundation Ambassadors, Ben Banks, for a discussion of the issues of transitioning from pediatric HIV care to adult care. During a childhood battle with a cancer that attacked his lungs and kidneys, he contracted HIV from a blood transfusion. Ben has also spoken at one of our CWA Conventions and received a rousing show of support from attending delegates.

"As I walked into the Whitman-Walker Clinic I thought, What will everyone in the waiting room think when I tell the receptionist why I'm here? Will they think I'm gay? Will they think I cheated on my wife? I wonder if any of them know I'm a pastor?"

The Washington Post reports that the HIV infection rate for heterosexual African American women in the District's poorest neighborhoods nearly doubled in two years, from 6.3 percent to 12.1 percent.

Chip Lyons authored a Huffington Post blog entitled ?Zimbabwe's Great Leap Toward Preventing HIV in Children,? recapping his recent trip to Harare with CIFF CEO/Founder Jamie Cooper-Hohn and highlighting the tremendous steps forward that Zimbabwe continues to make towards ending pediatric AIDS.

Last week, Jake Glaser authored a ONE Campaign blog post entitled, ?Why an AIDS-free generation means so much to me? as part of USAID?s Fifth Birthday Campaign, which highlights the issue of ending preventable child deaths.
