Piedmont Agents Vote 'CWA Yes'

The 3,000 fleet and passenger service agents at Piedmont Airlines now have a union voice, as agents voted by a two-to-one margin for representation by the Communications Workers of America. Ballots were counted today by the National Mediation Board.

Delta, Piedmont Elections Results in Next Week

Lots of election results next week. Ballots will be counted on Nov. 3 in the election covering 21,000 flight attendants at Delta Air Lines, which merged with Northwest earlier this year. For the nearly 14,000 Delta flight attendants, a victory will mean union representation for the first time, and Northwest?s 7,000 AFA-CWA flight attendants will keep the bargaining rights they?ve had for more than 50 years.

Transport and Medical Workers Join CWA

More workers are gaining CWA representation. In New Jersey, 65 part-time medical consultants at the State of New Jersey Disability Determination Service won representation with Locals 1037 and 1038. The workers had been excluded by management from the existing CWA bargaining unit even though they were doing the same work as full-time medical examiners, but finally won recognition and bargaining rights.

More Telecom, Public Workers Joining CWA

More than 175 workers joined CWA last week, from telecom workers at AT&T Mobility in Puerto Rico to public workers in the Borough of Island Heights in Ocean County, N.J.

Community Education Center Workers Join CWA in Trenton

Workers at the Bo Robinson Community Education Center in Trenton, N.J., wanted a union and they overwhelmed management's efforts to stop them. The workers at the privately-run center that helps former corrections prisoners transition back into society voted unanimously, 54-0, last week, for CWA Local 1040. The unit has 69 workers total.
