Workers Memorial Day 2015 brought tears and determination to make workplaces safer at events across the country.

April 28, 2015- Workers' Memorial Day- the day we mourn for our brothers and sisters who have suffered life-ending workplace safety and health tragedies, celebrate their lives, as well as fight like Hell for the living- is approaching quickly. Please get together with CWA locals or join together with central labor councils and other union and coalition members to plan an event in your area. The theme this year when CWA activists and other unions observe Workers' Memorial Day on April 28 will be "Speak Out for Safe Jobs. Protect Workers Now" as workers step up the fight for safe workplaces and remember fellow workers killed, injured and made sick on the job.

In 2011, 13 CWA Ohio members/AT&T technicians were disciplined by AT&T for sustaining and seeking medical treatment for work-related injuries. The company charged that the workers had violated AT&T?s new accident /injury discipline policy, which claimed all work-related accidents and injuries are preventable and, thus, the fault of the workers.

"Volunteer activists are the heart of the health and safety movement," CWA President Larry Cohen told 1,500 union members who gathered in Pittsburgh this week for the CWA-Steelworkers Health, Safety & Environment Conference.
