An election-year Congress is taking up several measures that will affect working families — from budget proposals to taxes to health care — and CWA is pressing for action that will benefit workers’ jobs, pocketbooks and families.

CWA President Morton Bahr joined leaders of the world’s trade unions in calling for an international code of conduct requiring General Electric Co. to respect workers’ rights wherever it does business.

CWA extended a hand of solidarity to Boeing engineers and technical workers in Washington state who succeeded, after a 38-day strike, in beating back concession demands and winning the respect and fair salary treatment they sought from the aerospace giant.

While Congress bickers about upping the federal minimum wage by a mere $1, cities and counties across the country are taking action to see that some workers actually earn enough to live on.

Generous CWA members across the country helped 17 families in New Jersey Local 1058 recover from flood damage after Hurricane Floyd, said Sal Greene, the local’s executive vice president and chair of its Community Services Committee.
