Joe Biden’s Buy American Order Will Close Loopholes and Create Jobs in Manufacturing and Services

Washington, D.C. -- Today President Biden issued an executive order to update and strengthen Buy American requirements for federal spending. Current regulations create loopholes that allow companies to offshore jobs and undermine the intent of the law.

“President Biden’s Buy American executive order doesn’t just support manufacturing jobs,” said Communications Workers of America President Chris Shelton.“By initiating a process to keep services jobs in the United States, President Biden has taken an important step toward protecting call center jobs as well.”

“American taxpayer dollars should be used for products that are truly made in America,” said Carl Kennebrew, president of the Industrial Division of CWA (IUE-CWA). “American corporations need to step up and use their excess capacity in factories across the country to increase domestic production and create family-supporting, union jobs. This executive order will crack down on employers like GE who send jobs out of the country and will help ensure that we can build the products needed for a 21st century economy right here at home. IUE-CWA members are ready to do their part to help our country build back better.”
