Voting Begins in Piedmont Election

Voting instructions were mailed beginning Sept. 25 to 1,200 customer service and ramp workers at Piedmont Airlines who are voting on CWA representation.

Agents will vote by telephone in the National Mediation Board election, with the results to be tallied and announced Oct. 24. Under NMB rules, more than half of the unit must vote for the election to be valid.

Piedmont is a wholly owned subsidiary of US Airways, with workers based in Charlotte, N.C., and at airport locations along the East Coast from Connecticut to Florida and in locations in the southeastern United States.

Agents are seeking a fair seniority system and an end to favoritism in bidding on shifts and filling vacancies, in the event of a layoff or recall, or other job condition. They also are seeking the right to fill vacancies at US Airways, before the carrier hires from the outside, giving Piedmont agents the opportunity to advance at US Airways.

Other key issues include a fair wage system with yearly step raises to replace the current biased pay system and improvements in retirement benefits, vacation and other programs.
