Verizon Scab Search – Here We Go Again

We know from experience that the telecom companies leave no rock unturned in trying to line up potential scabs, and sure enough – CWA has learned that Verizon will shortly be contacting retired GTE members to solicit them as strikebreakers in the event of a strike against Verizon East this summer.

Locals and staff all over the country are urged to get the "scab alert" out and report any contacts with retirees to their District offices. There are former GTE operations – now Verizon – in every CWA District.

Even retired telco managers are refusing requests for scab duty according to our contacts with the BellTel Retirees Association. The association's executive director, Bill Jones, reports that retired managers are angry at Verizon because: "Our membership has suffered serious erosion of pension buying power and dwindling health care benefits over the past 10 years at the hands of the company."
