Sen. Edwards Backs Verizon N.C. Strikers

Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.) wrote to Verizon President Lawrence Babbio voicing concern over the Verizon North Carolina strike and calling on the company to "negotiate in good faith an end to this strike to allow these families to get back to work."

The workers at these North Carolina facilities are raising some serious issues about working conditions," Edwards wrote, adding, "These are hard-working people who have always represented Verizon well."

Edwards indicated that, "I hope to hear of its resolution in the near future."

Meanwhile, members of CWA Local 3673 are fighting back against Verizon North Carolina's illegal tactics.

Most recently, the company stepped up its scare tactics by sending the 150 workers a letter to their homes stressing that it had made its last offer and that workers should contact the union.

CWA has filed unfair labor practice charges over several of the company's tactics, and is spotlighting the company's refusal to honor an information request from the union. In a letter to the company on July 15, CWA stressed that the lack of data, related to several Verizon concession demands, is delaying the bargaining process.
