Statement by CWA President Bahr on the Strike at Bell Atlantic
Communications Workers of America President Morton Bahr issued the following statement after 73,000 CWA-represented Bell Atlantic workers went on strike at 12:01 a.m. today:
CWA, BellSouth Reach Settlement Covering 48,000
Shortly before expiration of the previous labor contract at midnight last night, CWA and BellSouth reached settlement on a new three-year pact covering 48,000 employees. The agreement is subject to ratification by union members.

With less than a week left to resolve outstanding issues in contract talks between the Communications Workers of America and Bell Atlantic, CWA's Executive Board today voted to give union President Morton Bahr authority to call a strike if settlement isn't reached by midnight, August 8.
