Working Americans to US Senate: Confirm All of the President's Nominations to NLRB

CWA Activists and Allies Will Lobby Senators on National Day of Action; Senate Must Confirm All Five NLRB Nominees or Change the Senate Rules to Provide for an 'Up or Down' Vote

Washington, DC - In advance of the U.S. Senate nominations showdown expected to take place this month and in light of Republican Senators’ continued obstruction of nominees to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), the Communications Workers of America (CWA) and allies are holding a “Day of Action” tomorrow to mobilize voices across the country and send a clear message to the Senate: confirm the current 5 nominees to the NLRB.

The voices involved in tomorrow’s “Day of Action” will make clear that if the nominees continue to be blocked, the Senate Democratic Majority must change the Senate rules to allow for an “up or down” vote on the nominees. The stakes are high: if the Senate doesn’t confirm all five members before its August recess, 80 million private sector workers will lose the protections of labor law by Labor Day.

As part of the “Day of Action” on the NLRB, CWA and allies including Sierra Club, Blue Green Alliance, Jobs with Justice, and the AFL-CIO are engaging in rallies, leafleting, and petition drives in a total of 26 states. Among the activities:

  • Petition Signatures Demanding Confirmation of the NLRB Nominees Delivered to 7 Senate Offices: Today, the coalition will deliver thousands of signatures to 7 Senate offices. Members of leading coalition organizations, such as CWA, AFL-CIO, Blue Green Alliance and Sierra Club, are delivering petitions to Senate offices in Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Wisconsin demanding that their Senators confirm the President’s nominees or approve rules reform.
  • Leafleting and Phone Campaign into Overdrive in 19 States: Over 50 state- and local-affiliate organizations are leading leafleting drives at work sites and generating member calls to their senators in 19 states, including Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin.

  • Expanded In-State Visibility: Communications Workers of America (CWA) and its partners are coordinating rallies in front of Senate offices and work sites in 7 states across the country, including California, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, and Texas.

Two of the five seats on the NLRB are currently vacant and the term of another member will expire in August. For more, visit giveus5nlrb.org
