Safety Violations Run Rampant as Verizon Fails to Maintain Network

As the Verizon strike enters its third week, more and more incidents of replacement workers endangering themselves and the public are coming to light. Basic safety practices aren't being followed as unqualified managers and contractors hang cables, place poles and operate heavy equipment.

CWA Activists a Big Part of Democracy Awakening

On the final day of Democracy Awakening in Washington, D.C., CWA President Chris Shelton, Secretary-Treasurer Sara Steffens and nearly 80 CWA activists joined more than 300 hundred protesters who were arrested at the U.S. Capitol as they called for action to restore our democracy.

More than 300 members and activists from the Communications Workers of America are participating in Democracy Awakening, a mass mobilization of thousands of Americans calling for a democracy that works for all — not just the 1 percent. They rallied, marched, attended teach-ins, and lobbied, and today, are engaging in civil disobedience outside the U.S. Capitol.

Verizon Bargaining Update

Verizon workers and customers are extremely frustrated that company executives are not more serious about bargaining. Today, CWA and IBEW met with Verizon to discuss the contract covering workers in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, D.C., Virginia and West Virginia, but after 30 minutes and more demands to devastate workers' jobs, company executives left for the weekend.

CWA Members on Strike at Verizon

After nearly 10 months of trying to reach a fair contract with "Verigreedy," 39,000 CWA and IBEW working families went on strike on April 13.
