This weekend, much of the nation is preparing to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., through community service and a renewed determination to fight against injustice based on bigotry and hate.
The vile and offensive remarks of President Trump from the White House yesterday -- that characterized African nations as “shithole countries” -- show why our resolve to realize and reclaim Dr. King’s dream must be stronger than ever.
It’s not the first time we’ve heard this President insult and demean people of color. Equally shameful is the failure of more Republicans to disavow the President’s racist slur.
As we honor Dr. King on January 15, we recall his words that “the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.” We will call out racism wherever it appears, from the White House to every city and town across the country. We won’t stop until the United States lives up to the promise of true justice for all.
