The Communications Workers of America are committed to the fight for racial justice, and to listening to the voices of those who have been most affected by our country’s long history of systemic racism.
The racist image on Virginia Governor Ralph Northam’s Eastern Virginia Medical School yearbook page is deeply offensive and painful. CWA members worked to elect Ralph Northam governor with the expectation that he would be an effective advocate for all working Virginians. The discovery of this image and the Governor’s failure to accept responsibility for his association with it have violated the trust that our members placed in him.
We call on Governor Northam to resign and pledge our support to our members in Virginia and across the country as we work together toward a better future.
