Windstream taps into Zayo's colocation network to expand New York metro presence

Windstream has taken another step forward in its ongoing 100G network expansion into the New York market by deploying its core network infrastructure in Zayo's area colocation facilities.

Driven by Windstream's 100G long haul express network expansion -- one that included an upgraded and modernized Northeast regional and metro DWDM network -- Zayo will deploy colocation infrastructure for Windstream at zColo facilities located at 60 Hudson Street in New York City, and 165 Halsey Street in Newark, N.J.

A major component of this pact for Windstream is customer scale.

By making a connection into these two carrier-neutral colocation facilities, Windstream Carrier Solutions will be able to deliver metro and long haul wave services to an extended customer base in the Northeast that includes 300 business and carrier customers.

Buddy Bayer, vice president of transport engineering for Windstream, said in a release that expanding its long haul express network with a connection into Zayo's facilities enables Windstream to provide "high-capacity connectivity from the New York metropolitan area to markets across the U.S."

Expanding its network presence to Zayo's New York metro facilities complements Windstream's 100G network expansion effort.

The service provider said that by the end of 2015 it will complete the expansion of its long-haul network by adding nearly 20,000 route miles and nearly 50 new carrier access points.
