Fighting the Attack on GOOD JOBS: Labor Calls for Trade Remedies

This year's CWA convention resolution calling for a temporary import surcharge to curb imports that threaten U.S. jobs mirrors an AFL-CIO Executive Council policy statement adopted last February, which was written principally by CWA President Larry Cohen and USW President Leo Gerard.

Citing trade liberalization policies that have failed to create jobs and sustain communities, failed to safeguard U.S. security interests and to foster equitable development abroad, labor also is urging a moratorium on all pending trade deals until they can be rewritten to protect and advance workers' interests.
