Washington, D.C. – Delegates attending the 66th annual convention of the Communications Workers of America in Anaheim, Calif., will take up the critical political issues of Election 2004, including the endorsement of the Democratic presidential ticket of Sen. John Kerry and Sen. John Edwards.

During the two-day convention, which opens at 8:30 a.m., at the Anaheim convention center, delegates will hear from top Democratic leaders including House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Barbara Boxer.

CWA is one of the nation's most politically active and effective unions, with membership in every state and local union leaders playing a leading role especially in the battleground states this year. Some 2,700 delegates and guests will attend the two day meeting.

CWA President Morton Bahr has called the 2004 presidential race the most important election for working people in decades, with the candidates offering a very clear choice for voters between jobs and empty promises, between health security and giveaways to insurance companies and pharmaceutical firms, between respect for working families and a continuing handout for the wealthy.

Key speakers at the convention include:
Monday, Aug. 30 -- Morning session begins at 8:30 am
CWA President Morton Bahr (approx. 9 a.m.)
Sen. Barbara Boxer

Monday afternoon (begins at 1:30 pm)
CWA Executive Vice President Larry Cohen
CWA Sec.-Treas. Barbara Easterling

Tuesday, Aug. 31 -- Session begins at 8:30 am
House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (approx. 8:45 a.m.)

CWA is the union for the Information Age, representing more than 700,000 workers in telecommunications, news media, printing and publishing, broadcast television and radio, health care and the public sector, higher education, law enforcement, the airline industry and manufacturing.
