Butler Fleet Workers Return with Pay Agreement
CWA members in New York state concluded a 3-week strike against Butler Fleet Services on Sept. 21, with the company agreeing to a retroactive pay raise of 3 percent for a full year and 4 percent to the end of 2002.
The raises come with Butler’s agreement to extend until Dec. 31 its contract with CWA that expired last year for about 400 mechanics, allowing more time to work out unresolved issues including health benefits.
“We are continuing to bargain, with hopes of achieving a successor agreement,” said CWA Representative Rick Martini.
Butler Fleet Services maintains Verizon vehicles in the Bronx, Manhattan, mid-state and upstate New York. Transervice Lease Corp. has Verizon’s fleet service contract for Queens and Long Island, and P.M. Savvy performs fleet maintenance in Brooklyn. CWA represents workers at all three companies.
CWA negotiators reached a 3-year agreement with Transervice and Savvy at the end of August. Those two companies, Martini said, agreed to move their employees into the IUE-CWA Furniture Workers Fund health plan, saving members as much as $180 per week in premium costs.
