Be Counted! Make sure to return your National Census Form

While the National Women’s Committee calls on all CWA members to return their Census forms, below find some amazing statistics that show why women, in particular need to take the time out to be counted.

  • There are 1.558 million females in the United States as of Oct. 1, 2009 and at 85 and older, there are more than twice as many women as men.
  • The estimated number of mothers of all ages in the United States is 82.8 million.
  • Women 15 or older, made $35,745 median annual earnings when working year-round, full time, in 2008, which was down from $36,451 in 2007 (after adjusting for inflation). Women earned 77 cents for every $1 earned by men and for women of color the earnings are even less.
  • There are 29.4 million women 25 and older with a bachelor’s degree or more education in 2008, which is higher than the corresponding number for men (28.4 million). Women had a larger share of high school diplomas, as well as associate, bachelors’, and master’s degrees though more men than women had a professional or doctoral degree.
  • There are 66% of female citizens 18 and older who reported voting in the 2008 Presidential election. Only sixty-two percent of their male counterparts cast a ballot. Additionally, 73 percent of female citizens reported being registered to vote.

As you can see women are a very important part of American Society and it is crucial that we return our Census forms to make sure that our future, and our country’s future captures our changing and diverse America.
