"September 11th showcased the tremendous bravery of Flight Attendants. Our heroes on those four fateful flights acted as first responders. They relayed the first intelligence of the day that served to alert our country and our fellow crewmembers on flight 93 who in turn acted without reservation against evil, sacrificing their own lives to protect our country and lives of countless others," AFA President Veda Shook, Vice President Sara Nelson and Secretary-Treasurer Kevin Creighan said.
Nelson, a Boston-based United Flight Attendant, was later interviewed by ABC News and described losing her own friends on Flight 175, one of the two planes that hit the World Trade Center. "This is intensely personal for every Flight Attendant who knows exactly what those crew members were going through that day and exactly what they did as first responders," she said.
