Turning education into action

Since we began the Unity@Mobility campaign at the end of 2013, we have successfully trained 50 Mobility Members from six different Locals in the North in five different training sessions held in Sacramento, with a little over half of those being from our own Local, 9421.

As a direct result of the Unity@Mobility training classes, we were able to obtain and further educate four brand new Mobility Retail Stewards, who were eager to get involved in our Union and the Labor Movement.

To further engage our new Mobility Stewards and other Unity@Mobility graduates, we began a COPE/PAF fund raising drive — to see how many Mobility Retail Store members we could get to sign up via payroll deduction with the focus on fighting Fast Track and the T.P.P.

Before we began our drive, we had a fair number of retail store members contributing to COPE/PAF totaling right around $200 per month in voluntary contributions.

In six weeks we were able to increase the amount per month from our Local 9421 Mobility Retail by $128 per month! We are now averaging around $36 per month per store, with 31% of our overall Mobility Retail Members voluntarily participating in COPE/PAF. Our participation level in the stores now range from 20% in one store all the way to 60% in another, with various levels in between in our nine store locations.

We couldn't be prouder of our Mobility Retail Stewards for all they have done to help our members here in Local 9421 - Chief Steward: Patti Satterlee, Stewards: Christina Kempton, Rob Coates, Alex Dorado, Marco Rodriguez, Joaquin Mora and Ann Adkins. We would also like to thank all of those who have become more involved since attending the Unity@Mobility training classes, and to all of the members who have contributed in any way to our increased COPE/PAF revenue to fight Fast Track and the T.P.P.

Thanks to the Unity@Mobility campaign, we have been able to turn education into action here in Sacramento!
