Cyber-attack at Anthem

Vice President Bill Bates received the following information from Frontier Labor Relations today:

Dear Frontier Employee,

As you may be aware,  Anthem was the target of a very sophisticated cyber-attack.  These attackers gained unauthorized access to Anthem's IT system and obtained personal information from current and former members such as names, birthdays, member ID/Social Security Numbers, street addresses, email addresses and employment information. Based on what we know now, there is no evidence that banking, credit card, medical information (such as claims, test results, or diagnostic codes) were targeted or compromised.

Once the attack was discovered, Anthem immediately made every effort to close the security vulnerability, contacted the FBI and began fully cooperating with their investigation. Anthem has also retained Mandiant, one of the world's leading cybersecurity firms, to evaluate its systems and identify solutions.

The attached two documents (click here and here to view) provide additional insight into this situation.  In an effort to give clients and members immediate notice, Anthem is making this public although at this time they do not know the full scope of this breach.  Anthem is working with the FBI and other authorities to determine which clients and members are impacted - that will likely take a week.  All impacted members will be offered free credit monitoring and protection.  A member communication will be sent by Anthem as soon as they have that detail.  In the meantime, any member enrolled on Anthem.com already received an email from Joe Swedish, Anthem’s President and CEO.  Those who have not registered on the Anthem.com and provided e-mail address will receive the notice via U.S. mail.

Anthem has created a dedicated website (www.AnthemFacts.com ) where members can access information such as frequently asked questions and answers. It has also established a dedicated toll-free number both current and former members can call with questions related to this incident. That number is 1-877-263-7995As Anthem learns more, it will continually update this website and share that information with their clients and members.

As we learn more from Anthem we will share the information with you.
