Mission Statement
The primary mission of CWA’s National Women’s Committee is to raise issues of special concern to women. We will strive to educate and assist CWA Districts and Locals to develop programs and strategies that make women’s issues a priority in the workplace, community, and most importantly, in our Union.
In our efforts to improve the working conditions of women, we will provide information about education and training programs available through our Union, the National Labor College, Summer School for Women, as well as education and training programs available through the Coalition of Labor Union Women. We believe these programs will help CWA women in the workplace, in their Union and their personal lives as well.
Recognizing the many benefits that come from being a Union member, including higher wages and negotiated benefits, the Women’s Committee will provide support to CWA’s efforts to organize women throughout the country. Further, working within our Union’s structure, the Committee will mobilize women and work to involve them in all levels of the labor movement.
We will educate and prepare CWA women to actively address issues effecting working women and their families at the local, state and national level through political and legislative action. We encourage women to work within the CWA Union structure, the AFL-CIO state and local bodies and community-based allies.
The Women’s Committee will encourage women to run for elected public office and will provide information about Union programs designed to help them accomplish this goal.
The mission of the CWA National Women’s Committee will be accomplished by educating CWA Women and with the support of the entire CWA structure and membership.
