CWA Patient Assistance Fund at the Marrow Foundation
CWA Locals have a proud tradition of community service, through blood drives, disaster response, food drives, pediatric aids donations, United Way contributions and others too numerous to list.
Working with the Marrow Foundation, CWA Locals and their members have engaged in an important service and helped saved lives of patients with life-threatening blood diseases. Since 1998, we have forged a partnership with The Marrow Foundation and the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), enrolling our members as volunteers in the national Registry of unrelated marrow and blood stem cell donors, and encouraging our locals to donate to the Foundation's CWA Patient Assistance Fund. This Fund was established to help CWA members in need of financial assistance to proceed with marrow or blood stem cell transplants.
Unrelated blood stem cell and marrow transplants, considered experimental just a decade ago, today are emerging as the treatment of choice for more than 60 potentially fatal blood disorders. In the past 15 years, the NMDP Registry has grown to 4.5 million volunteers, and life-giving marrow transplants have been provided for more than 14,500 patients. The NMDP serves as the critical lifesaving link between the volunteer marrow donors and patients.
The CWA Patient Assistance Fund at The Marrow Foundation is an important part of our Community Service Program because we believe no one should be denied lifesaving treatments due to financial barriers. Please strengthen our partnership with The Marrow Foundation by making an annual contribution of at least $250, and if you know of members or their families in need of services from the Marrow Foundation, or are interested in more information, please contact the Marrow Foundation directly.
